I totally get it – you are thinking a blog is the last thing you have time for as a new business owner. There are so many other things demanding your attention right now. However, I have a few reasons why a blog is a great idea and a must-have item on your to-do list for your business!

01. A blog drives SEO to your website
If this is the only thing you read on this post from here on out, then know this – the more content related to your business that is on your website the more traffic you will gain. There is a reason SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is such a hot topic right now and it’s because search engines need the words written on your website to resonate with their specific keyword searches. Hundreds of businesses pop up daily, how can you be sure that yours is near the top of searches if your SEO hasn’t been carefully crafted? It’s important to do keyword research and see what people are searching for so that you can include those types of keywords on your website pages.
02. A blog provides free content to potential customers
When potential customers come to your site they want to make sure that you are legit. How can they know that if you don’t provide any background information proving that you are the real deal? Producing content related to your field shows people that you know your stuff and it’s the first step in offering something free to grab their attention. I know it’s hard to want to produce free stuff when you’re starting out and are desperate for some kind of income. Let me tell you that offering free nuggets of information, occasionally, earns the respect of future customers without trying too hard.
03. Blog posts give you a platform to share content
I have several fellow business owner friends who are super successful using social media to share all of their content. And, then, I have some fellow business owner friends that are exhausted from how often they post on social media for no return. A blog post covers all of the bases and you can still share on social media! Blog posts allow you to share on Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and it’s still driving traffic to your website through search engines. If you have a lot of content on one of those social media platforms right now try turning some of that content into blog posts on your website and see what happens. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised at the website traffic you receive.
04. Blog posts are a great way to relate to your customers
I know how hard it is to come across over a computer screen as the amazing and genuine person that you are. Think of a blog post as a way to show customers that you know your content, and use it as a way to share your heart behind starting this business. Customers want to relate to you before they send you money so make sure that you are giving them those chances. Blog posts allow you to share your story and reach potential customers on a personal level. It’s also easier to share multiple photos on a blog space rather than a social media space. Like I mentioned above, your words can then be shared through multiple avenues rather than just on one platform.
05. You don’t have to produce a post as often as you think
You are probably thinking that your time is so much better spent right now in other areas. I totally get that! But consider this – one blog post a week equals 52 posts per year which is 52 more chances for search engines to recognize you and 52 more chances for someone to stumble upon your website. That’s just once a week! Think about how many chances you could build to connect with someone after 2 or 3 years? It’s worth it to produce some type of content to bring people to your website a few times a month.
Still feeling overwhelmed by this? I will help you sort out topics to write about and provide you with a schedule to publish posts so you are driving more traffic to your site weekly!
